Typing practice for kids that feels like a game
Typing drills can be dull. Zomtype turns practice into an adventure: type each zombie's word to protect an armoured truck and rescue survivors. Kids pick up speed and accuracy because they want to keep the truck driving.
Safe and simple
- No blood or gore. Zombies vanish in a puff.
- No chat, so no contact with strangers.
- No accounts and nothing to sign up for.
- Free to play in the browser, with nothing to install.
Settings that fit the child
Pace settings (Practice, Relaxed, Normal, Intense) let young learners go slowly and let faster typists be challenged. On Practice the truck can't be damaged at all, so there is no pressure. Word packs (Mixed, Survival, Nature, Everyday) keep the words varied, and the Everyday pack uses familiar words.
Works on phones and computers
Zomtype runs in the browser on computers and phones. On a phone it has its own on-screen keyboard. A physical keyboard is best for building proper typing skills.
A few tips for parents and teachers
- Start on Practice or Relaxed and move up as accuracy improves.
- Aim for short sessions. Ten minutes a day beats an hour once a week.
- Praise accuracy first, then speed.
- Encourage both hands on the keyboard, with fingers resting on the home row.
