How to play Zomtype
Your goal is simple: keep the armoured truck going and drive as far as you can. Zombies carry words. Type a word correctly and that zombie is stopped.
The basics
Start typing. The first letter you type picks the zombie to target, and only one zombie on the road starts with each letter, so there is never any doubt which one you mean. Keep going to finish the word, and your gunner fires with every correct letter. On a phone, use the on-screen keyboard.
Combos and speed
Every zombie you stop gives the truck a burst of speed. Stopping zombies one after another builds a combo that multiplies your score, up to five times. A zombie that reaches the truck breaks the combo, so stop them early. A typo doesn't break the combo, but a word typed with no mistakes earns a bonus, so accuracy pays.
Health
The truck has five health bars. Every zombie that reaches the truck knocks some health off, and big ones hit harder. Rescuing a survivor restores a bar, a Toolbox crate repairs one, and rest stops in Endless mode patch the truck up.
Survivors
Stranded survivors run for the truck. Type their name and they climb aboard, and each rescue restores a health bar. Don't let a zombie catch one: losing a survivor costs a health bar. Survivors ride along until a rest stop in Endless mode, or the safe zone at the end of a Blitz run.
Crates and power-ups
- Toolbox repairs one health bar.
- Freeze slows every zombie for a few seconds.
- Airstrike calls in a jet that bombs the road ahead.
Type the word on the crate to grab it.
Hordes and bosses
Hordes rush the truck in numbers, so use your power-ups wisely. The boss carries a three-word phrase. Type the whole phrase, spaces too, and its armour comes off piece by piece with each word.
Pace and word packs
In the Garage, choose the Practice, Relaxed, Normal or Intense pace, and the Mixed, Survival, Nature or Everyday word pack. On Practice the truck can't be damaged. Change them any time to fit your skill.
Tips for a longer run
- Start on Practice or Relaxed to learn the flow.
- Focus on accuracy first. Speed follows.
- Look ahead to the next zombie while you finish the current word.
- Save Freeze and Airstrike for hordes and the boss.
- Spend your coins in the Garage between runs.
