Typing practice for beginners that feels like a game
Typing drills can be dull. Zomtype turns practice into an adventure: type each zombie's word to protect an armoured truck and rescue survivors. Beginners pick up speed and accuracy because they want to keep the truck driving.
A gentle start
On the Practice pace the truck can't be damaged at all, so a new typist can take as long as they need over every word without the run ending. When that feels easy, the Relaxed pace adds a little pressure, then Normal and Intense for confident typists. The words start short and grow as a run goes on.
Safe and simple for the whole family
- Cartoon zombies that vanish in a puff.
- No chat, so no contact with strangers.
- No accounts and nothing to sign up for.
- Free to play in the browser, with nothing to install.
Settings that fit any level
Pace settings (Practice, Relaxed, Normal, Intense) let beginners go slowly and let faster typists be challenged. Word packs (Mixed, Survival, Nature, Everyday) keep the words varied, and the Everyday pack uses familiar words.
Works on phones and computers
Zomtype runs in the browser on computers and phones. On a phone it has its own on-screen keyboard. A physical keyboard is best for building proper typing skills.
Tips for practising at home
- Start on Practice or Relaxed and move up as accuracy improves.
- Aim for short sessions. Ten minutes a day beats an hour once a week.
- Value accuracy first, then speed.
- Keep both hands on the keyboard, with fingers resting on the home row.
For a structured start, the two-week beginner plan takes ten to fifteen minutes a day.
