Comfortable typing
Typing feels easier, and you practise for longer, when you are comfortable. A few small habits make a big difference.
How to sit
- Sit back in the chair with your feet flat on the floor.
- Keep the top of the screen at about eye level, roughly an arm's length away.
- Let your shoulders relax and your elbows rest close to your sides.
Hands and wrists
- Keep your wrists straight and level, not bent up or down.
- Let your fingers hover over the home row rather than pressing down on it.
- Tap the keys lightly. There is no need to press hard.
Take breaks
Short, frequent breaks beat long sessions. Every twenty minutes or so, look at something far away for a few seconds, stretch your hands and roll your shoulders. For children, short daily sessions work best anyway.
