Warm-up exercises

A short warm-up loosens your hands and gets your fingers thinking about where the keys are. Two minutes is plenty.

For your hands

  1. Open and close. Make a loose fist, then spread your fingers wide. Repeat ten times.
  2. Finger taps. With your hands flat on the desk, lift and tap each finger in turn, from little finger to thumb and back.
  3. Wrist circles. Gently circle your wrists five times each way.

For your typing

  1. Rest your fingers on the home row and type each home row letter slowly, without looking.
  2. Type a few short words that use both hands, such as "hand", "fish" and "lake".
  3. Finish with one easy run on a gentle pace, aiming for no mistakes at all.

Warm-ups should feel easy. If anything hurts, stop.
